Attraction

The Plaza

Although Kansas City offers a fairly compact downtown area, attractions can be found throughout the city and even into Kansas. One of the most exciting and unusual stops is the Arabia Steamboat Museum. The Arabia was a famously prosperous steamboat on the rivers in the 19th century, yet perished in 1856. It wasn’t until 132 years later that it was discovered, still intact. This exhibit tells the history, adventure and tragedy of the pioneer spirit.

Kansas City’s Union Station is a must-see for all of those in the metro area. This once bustling station has been fully restored to its 1914 splendor and is one of Kansas City’s true landmarks. The station is home to the ever popular Science City, an interactive experience for kids that provides enough enjoyment for the adults too. The Station also provides excellent restaurants, unique shops, a Theater District and of course, a train ride. Union Station has once again become one of Amtrak’s busiest stops.

History buffs won’t want to miss the Harry S. Truman Historical Site. Included in this national site are the Truman Home in Independence and the Truman Farm home in Grandview. The Truman home, known as the “Summer White House” during the Truman administration features the white Victorian style home and also two additional family homes. The Truman Farm home tells the story of the family’s former 600-acre farm and the work that Mr. Truman did there from 1906-1917.

For a day of fun in the sun, don’t miss Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. Worlds of Fun offers rides and attractions for all ages.
