Arts
Kansas City offers a rich cultural experience through the arts. The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City works to promote local galleries, museums, performing arts groups, community theaters and so much more. One of their missions is to enhance the Kansas City experience through arts education and entertainment.
For a traditional look at historic art and that of contemporary artists, The Nelson-Atkins Museum features a wonderful permanent collection and traveling exhibits throughout the year. To take in the performing arts, the Lyric Theater houses the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, the Kansas City Symphony and the Kansas City Ballet. A 1927 extravagantly decorated Midland Theater offers stage musicals, concerts and other performances. The turn-of-the-20th-century Folly Theater presents jazz and children’s performances. For the warmer months there is the Star Light Theater in Swope Park for many open air performances.
